These are just some words from Announcer Cho who debuted through OnGameNet’s 2014 League of Legends(LoL) World Championship. Cho, who through League of Legends World Championship has secured the host role in coming LoL Champs, has won many viewers’ heart through her beauty, intelligence, and natural hosting skills.
Enrolled in Ewha Women’s University?majoring in dance?Cho had begun her childhood dream to become an announcer. Being the one out of a hundred applicants, Cho’s next step lies in being able to reach out to LoL community and expand until she can with all gamer fans.
For this interview, the 21-year-old Cho, with her regular beautiful cleansing smile, met me at Busan BEXCO, where League of Legends World Championship Round of 8 was to take place.
◆Dance major to Announcer
Cho’s childhood dream had two in the list: dance, and announcer. Graduating both art-specialized middle school and high school, the path to taking dance in the post-secondary education seemed rather fluid. Over the time, Cho just could not let go of the second dream to become an announcer. Having that said, while in school, she knocked on the student body-organized broadcasting station.
“Working for the school broadcasting station was a blast. The involvement really pushed me and made me want to learn more about this as a career path, so I signed up to an academy as an extra extra-curricular activity. After completing the preparation course from the academy, I applied to OnGameNet (OGN). I know I have so much more to learn, but I think the PD that interviewed me saw my passion and thought was worth a shot.”
And that is how she became an announcer. Her debuting stage was League of Legends World Championship. Every local-representatives were here. And this was one of the most anticipated events for all eyes, all around the globe, especially for LoL fans. Even at her first stage exposure, Cho showed everyone that she is not just an ordinary rookie with her what-it-seemed-to-be natural talent.
Cho studied and prepared a lot for her debut stage by checking out the venue and familiarizing it, and watching i-seul Kwon’s VOD’s. She never seizes to practice even at LoL Champs despite going through full rehearsals. These words are not nearly enough to praise her work ethics. Cho seems to be nothing less of perfect on big stages. Later on, I found out that the traits and guts actually came from her dance career.
“I have had many opportunities to stand in front of crowds as a dancer. I have been a part of several showcases and musicals in the past. Having those experiences definitely help. Nonetheless, to tell you the truth, I still get super nervous. My heart beats so fast and so hard before that red light is on. What is weird is that once that light is on and we are live, the tensions just go away, maybe?”
◆The New Next-in-Line of Beauties of LoL Reporters
When looking at all OGN’s LoL reporters, they all have one common. And that is that they are all extremely good looking. Joohee Min, Narae Joeun, and i seul Kwon. They all have been known to the fans as the goddesses. Cho is small but cute says her distinctive facial compositions, especially the big eyes and the lips. I am certain that all, if not, almost all, fans were caught on by her attractiveness. When asked her thoughts on fans calling her the Goddess of League of Legends World Championship, Cho giggled and said stop.
“Goddess, eh? I am speechlessly thankful for the kind fans. I, personally, though, prefer that ‘little sister’ presence. I think that may be the image that many are familiar with, and I want people to feel that way around me (as if they have known me for ages).”
When Kwon resigned, and the news was out that OGN was looking to find her successor, the competition was out of the roof. Applicants ranged from former Miss Korea to full-time models. But Cho was the one that shone above the other hundred.
“During my interview, I emphasized the fact that I was merely 21 years old. (LOL). There has not been a single LoL Champs reporter who was either or below the age of 21. I specifically asked that they consider what a passionate 21-year-old university student can and will do in future. I think it worked.”
◆The Want to Communicate to More Fans
Cho does not look like a type that would sit around all day and play games, but she does. In fact, League of Legends, not only because increasing the in-game knowledge is an underlined must in her job descriptions, but more because she wants to give fans some quality interviews as with the end of League of Legends World Championship, she begins the new chapter as LoL Champs reporter.
She has already achieved Level 30, and plays ranked games regularly. Starting out as an ADC, she said she has recently changed her main role to support as she feels that there are still a lot to learn about dealing damages in the team engagements. Cho, at the end of the comment, added “I wish there were tutors for this”.
“Thank you all so much for your supports since my debut stage. I am new to this, but I am working on it, and your supports mean a lot to me. I am studying hard to be better at the game. In the future, I wish to be able to expand myself so I can meet all different kinds of fans in the eSports scene. Please keep the cheers up.”
